Pastelitos de Guayaba
Ingredients:
Preparation:
In a bowl, beat together the cream cheese, milk, lemon juice and 1/4 cup sugar. Mix until uniform, set aside.
In a separated bowl, whisk together the eggs and 2 tbs water.
Slice the guava paste into 32 strips, beat a little more the cream cheese.
Cut each puff pastry sheet into 4 pieces. In the center of each piece place one slice guava paste and around 2 tbs cream cheese mixture.
Fold the other half of the dough over the filling. Seal good the edges. Cut some slits in the center.
Place the pastelitos on a lined baking tray, brush with the egg wash and bake in a previously pre-heated oven at 180°C for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
In the meantime, in a small saucepan, mix 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 a cup water. Bring it to a simmer for 5 minutes. Set aside.
After the pastelitos are baked, brush them with the sugar syrup and bake for 6 minutes more.
Let them cool down completely before eating.
